Limited Distribution Specialty Drugs

Overview

Limited distribution drugs are medications that may have special dosing requirements or lab monitoring that need to be followed very closely. Because of this, the manufacturer sometimes chooses to limit the distribution of their drug to only a few pharmacies, or as part of the drug approval process the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may recommend this type of distribution in order for the drug to be approved. This type of restricted distribution helps the manufacturer keep track of the inventory of the drug, educate the dispensing pharmacists about the necessary monitoring required, and ensure that any risks that are associated with the medication are minimized.

In order to obtain one of the drugs, you will need to contact the appropriate limited distribution pharmacy, or mail or fax a completed enrollment form to the appropriate pharmacy. Once you have made contact with the pharmacy, they will work with you to set up delivery of your medication and arrange for billing and payment. Please visit the websites below to access contact information for the current limited distribution medications.
